Probate

Woman at a graveside in mourning In the majority of cases if there is a Will you will probably need to get a Grant of Probate. Or, if there is no Will, a Grant of Letters of Administration. Both have to be applied for at the Probate Registry.

This involves:-

  • Working out the value of the estate
  • Preparing an Oath and an Inheritance Tax form and working out the amount of Inheritance Tax (if payable)
  • Collecting in the assets
  • Paying debts and
  • Paying the people who inherit.
