In the majority of cases if there is a Will you will probably need to get a Grant of Probate. Or, if there is no Will, a Grant of Letters of Administration. Both have to be applied for at the Probate Registry.
This involves:-
Working out the value of the estate
Preparing an Oath and an Inheritance Tax form and working out the amount of Inheritance Tax (if payable)
Collecting in the assets
Paying debts and
Paying the people who inherit.
